Franciscan Poor Clare Sisters of Duncan

5:00 am to 6:00 am - Rising:  Each Sister has her own inner rhythm, but we all treasure these early morning hours set aside for quiet prayer, study, spiritual reading or on sunny days, having one’s coffee outside listening to the singing birds.

8:10 am - Morning Praise:  We gather together for our first communal prayer in the Chapel, often joined by parishioners who worship with us. Our Liturgy of the Hours consists of hymns, psalms, prayers and petitions – the proclamation of our gratitude to the Living God.

9:00 am - Eucharistic Celebration:  Several days a week, we are privileged to celebrate Eucharist in our Chapel. Here we receive the spiritual energy that enlivens our lives, uniting our prayer with the universal Church for all the needs of our suffering world. 

10:00 am to 12:00 pm - Work:  There are a variety of services which fill our day. Sometimes we are asked to offer spiritual direction, or hospitality to visitors. In the summer, there is gardening and general outside maintenance, canning and freezing when produce is ready. Artistic designs are created and printed or work done in the sewing department. Preparing meals brings out culinary skills and a certain amount of creativity. Caring for the sick, liturgy preparation, secretarial work, answering e-mail requests, etc. are all part of our ministry. 

12:00 pm - Mid Day Prayer:  We meet again in Chapel for a short time of prayer. This gathering helps us to come before the Lord acknowledging God as the focus of our lives. 

12:15 pm - Main Meal:  As Franciscans we eat what has been provided for us through the generosity of benefactors, striving to create nutritious, wholesome fare. This is also our time for sharing life together through conversation and exchange of ideas, community interests or items of information.

It is a time of sharing our life as sisters, sometimes a time of serious concerns and at others, just plain fun and the enjoyment of being together.
